Yorkshire County player Chris Slater (pic 2nd from left - now living in Colwyn Bay) beat Darren Williams (Deganwy) to lift the 2003 Don Morgan Trophy from a class field of 32.

The Geraint Jones Junior Open was won for the second year running by Bryn Hughes of the home club.

The Dicken Cup was won by Keith Williams (Penmaenmawr) who just piped young Daniel Jones 21-20 in the Final.

3rd July 2003

Craig-y-Don (Gareth Hughes (capt.), Bryn Hughes,Dan Jones,Gareth Williams, Dave Massey, Alan Hughes,Terry Hampton, Neville Roberts) beat Deganwy by 5 to win the Gwynedd Cup at Beaumaris. The Cup returns to CYD after an 18 year wait.

 

 

29th June 2003

Congratulations go to Bryn Hughes of CYD who today became the 2003 Welsh Junior Champion. At Coed Talon, from a field of 16 , he beat Ioan Critchlow (Bethesda) 21-10 in the final , having beaten Lewis Scott (St Asaph) 21-19 in the Semis.

Dan Jones (CYD) went out 21-17 in the last 16.

Some of our up and comming junior stars (Pictured left) were in action at Conwy in the qualifying rounds of the British Junior Parks Merit . Successful qualifiers to the final day (to be held at CYD in August) were Bryn Hughes, Dan Jones and Glyn Jones.

The Emlyn H Roberts Pairs wasd won by Hwfa Roberts and O P Williams (Llanfair PG) who beat father and son combination of Gareth and Bryn Hughes (CYD) 21-14 in the final. Terry Hampton and John Steen (CYD) beat another father and son team of Geraint and Dan Jones (CYD) 21-13 to win the Plate competition

Terry Lea (CYD) returned to bowling in fine form. He partnered Steve Jones to win the Llandudno Oval Pairs in convincing style.

Gareth Williams partnered Gary Roberts (Deganwy) to win the Ray Springfield Memorial Trophy from a strong invitation field of 16 at Deganwy. They beat Colin Evans (Rhos Park) and Peter Jones (Deganwy) 21-8 in the final.

The 4th Annual Don Morgan Trophy was won by John Bailey (Llanrwst - pic left) who beat Carl Jones (Eccles) 21-18 in the final.

Alan Williams was in brilliant form to win the scratch Dan Owen Trophy beating Bryn Hughes 21-9 in the final. An eight man team from CYD competed in the Betws yn Rhos Pairs League for the 1st time last Thursday. The team of Gareth Hughes,Bryn Hughes,Geraint Jones,Dan Jones,Neville Roberts, John Steen,Ian Andrews and Gareth Williams lost 3-2 to last years winners - Betws Supporters.

The Coast League A Team finish the season in style beating Beaumaris 9-5 at home. Not only do they avoid relegation but they reach a respectable 6th in the table. Also the Llandudno + Dist. league A team avoid relegation by one point mainly due to a shock home defeat for Rhos Park B at the hands of Llanrwst B.

Ernest Moss Pairs winners were Eddie Edwards and John Steen who defeated Terry Hampton and Keith Sanford 21-12 in the final. Roger Morgan won the prestigous Stockport Victoria beating Steve freer 21-2 in the final. The Coast league A Team had a very important 12-2 win at home to Llanfair PG, which just might help to keep them in Section A for next year.

Morag Coulter won the Ladies Trophy beating Betty Hall 21-14 in the final, the 2 losing semi finalists were Betty Jones and Carol Sanford. The Frank Kershaw Trophy was won by Bill Bailey who beat Tony Davies 21-10. The losing semi finalists were Terry Hampton and Mike Beard. Ian Andrews just beat Neville Roberts 21-20 in the final of the HL Williams Salver. The William Howard Rose Bowl was won by John Steen who beat Bob Coulter 21-17, Dave Massey and Derek Jones going out in the Semis.

Bryn Hughes (pic extreme left) of CYD won the Geraint Jones Junior Cup beating clubmate Dan Jones 21-14 in a very good quality final.

Gareth Williams won the CYD open Dicken Cup, beating clubmate Roger Morgan 21-9 in the final.

Bryn Hughes and Dan Jones both won for Wales at the Legion Colwyn Bay, as they beat Cheshire to reach the semi finals of the Junior Counties Cup.

Bryn Hughes did extremely well to reach the Semi-Finals of the Junior Welsh Merit at Menai Bridge. He beat Adam Harris (Beaumaris) in the quarters before losing 21-15 to Lewis Scott (St Asaph). Geraint Booth (Llanfair PG) became the Welsh Champion, having won his semi 21-1.

Roger Morgan qualified for the 'All England ' having lost in the quarter finals of the Welsh Merit today. He beat David Jones 21-14 in the last 16, before losing to the eventual riunner-up Des Hey 21-18. Kevin Witlow became Welsh Champion for the first time 21-20 in the final.

Roger Morgan defends his Welsh Merit crown at the Parciau green , Wrexham on Sun June 23rd. He plays the 2000 Champion David Jones in the pick of the last 16 ties. Gareth Williams and Gary Roberts again lost in the final of the TSB one day pairs at Rhos Park. They lost 21-14 to Barry and Betty Phillips in the Final, having beaten John Bailey and Kevin Williams (Llanrwst) in the semis.

CYD defeated Beaumaris in the Quarter finals of the Gwynedd Cup. In an exciting match Dave Morgan Jones (last on the green at Beaumaris) beat Adam Harris 21-13 to secure a 1 point overall victory. We now play Llanfair PG in the Semi-final on June 13th.

12th May 2002

Dan Jones (21-17) and Bryn Hughes (21-19) both won in their debuts for the Welsh Junior team at Abergele today. Wales were convincing winners over Cumbria.

Gary Buckland and Martin Hughes won the Emlyn Roberts Funeral Directors Pairs at CYD beating Glen Magill and Brian Chamberlain in the Final. The Consolation Cup final was an all CYD affair with John Steen + Terry Hampton overcoming Bob Coulter + Alan Williams.

Congratulations to Dan Jones who at 13 became the youngest person to win the Gwynedd Senior merit on Monday 6th May at Llanfairfechan. He beat Jane Bowler (Deganwy) 21-20 in the final.

Junior members Bryn Hughes and Dan Jones have been picked to play for the Welsh Junior team for the first time. They will play in the home leg at Abergele on Sunday May 12th. We wish them well and I'm sure that they will do CYD proud. The Patio area adjacent to the clubhouse is now finished (see pic below) , thanks again to the grant from the New Horizons Trust.

Its official Terry Lea is back with CYD this year. Terry who has played for Wales will be doing his 2nd, no 3rd, maybe 4th (hang on where's my calculator!) stint with CYD. Terry is always a very valuable player to have in the team, on and off the green. We look forward to some great performances from Terry again this season.

The No1 green opened for play last Saturday 23/03.

The 'History of CYD BC' by Bill Hitchinson is at its final draft stages and should be ready for sale in a couple of weeks. It will be a unique document which will be the envy of many other clubs.

Work is being carried out at the CYD green to create a good sized patio area adjacent to the club house. This area will be furnished with patio tables and chairs and could be used for barbeques. Terry Hampton is seen pictured clearing the way.

A team from CYD have entered the indoor 'Roving Jack' League at Ffrith Beach, Prestatyn. Gareth Hughes, Geriaint Jones, Dan Jones, Bryn Hughes, Gareth Williams, Sioned Taylor have already featured in early games with hopefully John Steen and Neville Roberts to make their debuts soon. Last Sunday the CYD team had their best win so far, beating 4th placed Trefnant 5-2. The team are steadily rising up the league as they gain more experience of the tricky indoor surface.

The CYD Winter Club at Queens Road has started well with the green in very good condition (thanks to Terry Hampton once again) . Many players have been taking advantage of some of the mild weather that we've had lately. The Winter membership already stands at a staggering 75 .

All North Wales Bowlers will be very pleased to hear the good news that John Steen has recovered very well from his sudden illness which kept him out of the pairs final mentioned below (14/10). Having spoken to John (who is now out of hospital) today, he is in very good spirits and is really looking forward to some winter bowling as soon as he can.

John Steen and Terry Hampton bowled extremely well to reach the final of the Llandudno + Dist. League pairs where they will play Ivor Jones and Julie Bray (Rhos Park). Due to illness the final will now be played in the spring 2002.

On the final day of the season Club President Dave Massey won the CYD Club Championship with a 21-20 win over John Steen.

The Don Morgan Trophy again attracted a high quality 32 field. Tommy King from Manchester was a very worthy winner just pipping Anthony Bailey (Llanrwst) 21-19 in an exciting final.

John Steen capped a great season by winning the N Wales Coast League Presidents Prize at Menai Bridge beating John Short (Bangor) in the final. John Steen was also runner-up in the Llandudno + District League Presidents Day at Penmaenmawr to J.P.Williams (Pen).

September 14th 2001

Gary Roberts and Gareth Williams won their 3rd Pairs Competition of the season when they lifted the 'Gethin Cunnah' Cup at Dyserth (14/9). Having beaten one of the favorites John Bonatti and Matthew Foster (21-13) in the last 8, they went on to beat Albert Jones and Mark Stevens of Llanrwst 21-15 in a close fought final.

September 9th 2001

Craig-y-Don 'A' beat Eirias Park 10-4 in their last Coast League match of the season. This secured 2nd place in the league and promotion for Dave Massey and his team. They missed out on winning Section 'B' by only 2 points as Penmaenmawr beat Bangor 8-6 at home in their last game. Craig-y-Don 'B' have also clinched promotion to Section C in the Coast League when they finished Runners up in Section D.

September 1st 2001

Craig-y-Don 'A' won 10-4 away at Bethesda the best winners being Alan Hughes 21-5 and Dave Morgan Jones 21-6. This follows a 11-3 away win at Menai Bridge the previous Saturday. The situation at the top of Section B is now Penmaenmawr 150, Craig-y-Don 146, Eirias Park 142. Final Saturday fixtures are Penmaenmawr at home to Bangor and CYD home to Eirias Park. Two of these 3 teams will gain promotion to Section 'A' .

August 2nd 2001

Craig-y-Don lost by only 6 points in the final of the Gwynedd Cup played at Penmaenmawr. It was an excellent team performance with 4 winners each , the CYD winners being Gary Roberts, Terry Hampton, Gareth Williams and John Steen. Ian Andrews played very well to hold an inform Darren Williams to 16 on his own green.

JULY 22nd 2001

Tony Throup from Yorkshire won the Dicken Cup when he beat Lee Lawton of Manchester 21 -13 in the final to collect the £250 first prize. Tony had beaten Darren Williams to 17 in the semis and CYD players Gary Roberts and Dave Massey played well to reach the last 8.

JULY 13th 2001

John Steen won the HL Williams Salver (scratch comp.) when he beat Dave Massey 21-13 in the final. John had beaten young Bryn Hughes in the semi and Dave had beaten Derek Jones.

JULY 10th 2001

Two great wins for CYD teams. In the Veterans league we beat Llandudno 9-0. In the Counties league we won our first away game of this season 6-4 at St. Asaph. The winners were Ian Andrews, Gareth Williams, Gary Roberts and the best winner Bill Hitchinson (21-5) who secured the Aggregate for us.

JULY 8th 2001

Gary Roberts lost to Darren Williams (Deganwy) 31-28 in a very exciting close fought final of the 31Up Min y Don competition organised by Elfed Morris. The standard of bowling in the final was excellent , both players matching each other all over the green. Gary had easily dismissed Colin Campbell (Deganwy) in the quarters and Gwerydd Buckland (Bangor) in the Semis.

JUNE 25th 2001

Roger Morgan becomes the third CYD player to win the Welsh Merit Title since 1926. On Sunday 24th June at Abergele, he beat Dave Mathias of Beaumaris 21-11 in the Final collecting £300 and the Trophy he has most wanted to win for the last 25 years. JUNE 16th 2001

Bryn Hughes and Dan Jones both qualified at Penmaenmawr for the Welsh Junior Merit finals day. The final day is to be held somewhere in Wrexham at the end of July and we wish the both of them the best of luck.
