2002 Season Summary

 

The 2002 season is over and the team reports are listed below, with other club activities.

 

Winter Bowling

The Queen's Road No 2 green is now closed for the end of season work and will re open on Monday 28th October for the Winter Bowling season. Terry Hampton the greensman is organising the winter bowling club, subscription is £12.00 and further details can be obtained from Terry on 07941 737 716.

 

Social Bowling

Both greens were well used by the social members and also several outside clubs including the Wirral and Lancashire Clubs enjoyed da sessions bowling on a day out. The new patio area was a success and well used. The 2nd patio area will be completed during the end of season work on the greens.

 

Hon. Secretary

With the resignation of John Lloyd Owen as Hon. Secretary in June, Bill Hitchinson agreed to become acting Hon. Secretary until the next AGM in 2003. Address : 16 Harcourt Road, Craig-y-Don, Llandudno LL30 1TU . Tel : 01492 878140.

 

North Wales Coast League

A Team - Section A

The A Team struggled throughout the season being in the bottom 2 places until they had a run of good results in the last few fixtures. They ended up equal fifth on points with Llanfair Pg who had a better aggregate.

B Team - Section C

The B Term had a slow start but by August they were second to Copperfields and in contention for promotion, but slipped back to finish fourth having won 11of their 18 matches.

 

Llanduno and District League

A Team - Section A

Again the A Team was at the foot of the table all season and only avoiderd relegation by one point thanks to a fine win by Llanrwst B at Rhos Park B in the last match of the season.

B Team - Section A

The B Team played steadily all season and finished a fine fifth, winning 10 and drawing 2 of their 22 matches.

C Team - Section B

The C Team only lost 1 home game on Queen's Road and finished sixth in their section with only Deganwy winning more matches.

 

Welsh Counties

The Team had a better Season this year having returned to the CYD green from Queen's Road, finishing a respectable fifth.

 

Gwynedd Senior Citizens

The Team competed all season with Bangor and Penmaenmawr for the top spot, but bad results in the last 2 matches meant that they only finished fourth, 4 points behind champions Bangor.

 

The Ladies Team

The Ladies team lost the Fildes Cup to Llandudno after holding it for a number of years when the teams ended equal on points and aggregate. An extra eleven up game was won by Llandudno to clinch the Cup. The Ladies Team won more games than they lost during the Season.

 

The Veterans Team

The veterans had a successful season losing only 3 of their 20 friendly matches.

CYD OPEN COMPETITION WINNERS

Notable Achievements in 2002

13 year old Daniel Jones won the Gwynedd Senior Merit at Llanfaifechan, beating the experienced Jane Bowler (Deganwy) 21-20 in the Final.

Dan Jones and Bryn Hughes had a very successful season for the Welsh Junior Team reaching the Semi Finals and winning 3 out of 4 of their games.


OTHER END OF SEASON COMPETITION NEWS

 

Gareth E Hughes lost 21-10 to Andy Jones (Dyserth) in the final of the Coast League Presidents Prize Day at Beaumaris.

Gareth Williams and Gary Roberts (Deganwy) won the Ray Springfield Memorial Pairs at Deganwy beating Colin Evans and Peter Jones 21-8 in the Final.

 

 

 

The CYD members end of season Triples at Betws yn Rhos was won by Geraint Jones, Bryn Hughes and Gareth Williams.

 

Congratulations to Bill Bailey who became the 2002 CYD Club Champion when he beat J D Jones in the Final last weekend.

 

Terry Lea (CYD) returned to bowling in fine form. He partnered Steve Jones to win the Llandudno Oval Pairs in convincing style.

 

 

The fourth running of the Don Morgan Trophy, hosted by Craig y Don Bowling Club, took place on Sunday 29th September with once again a top class field of 32 players assembling from throughout the Crown Green Bowling World to produce an excellent standard of Bowling.Welsh International John Bailey (Llanrwst) emulated his older brother Anthony’s 1999 achievement by lifting the Don Morgan Trophy and the £140 first prize with a 21 –18 victory over the 2001 British Parks Champion Carl Jones (Eccles) in yet another thrilling final. John showed great resilience all day as he overturned deficits in each of his matches from the quarterfinals onwards culminating in winning the final from being 12 – 18 in arrears. Tournament organiser Roger Morgan, on behalf of his family, thanked both the players and the members of Craig y Don Bowling Club for supporting this competition held annually in memory of his father.
