Good Start to 2003 Season

The club opened for the 2003 season at the end of march, with several new members joining. We had an interest from a couple of juniors at the end of last season and the Secretary wrote to 3 local schools offering free coaching during the Easter holidays. Unfortunately there was no response but the juniors from last season joined and brought along some of their friends and we have now registered 10 new juniors. We have also entered a junior team in the Llandudno and District Junior League.

The Junior Members

The eventual winners of the main cup competition were Hwfa Roberts and O P Williams (Llanfair PG) who beat father and son combinmation of Gareth and Bryn Hughes (CYD) 21-14 in the final. Terry Hampton and John Steen (CYD) beat another father and son team of Geraint and Dan Jones (CYD) 21-13 to win the Plate competition.

Visit of Flemish Bowlers to CYD

Llandudno is twinned withthe french town of Wormhout and the club were approached last year to see if we could accommodate a bowls and boules match over the Easter holiday. On Easter Saturdayaround twenty french supporters arrived at the Queen's Road green. The Major and Mayoress Cllrs Mr and Mrs Pearce opened the proceedings. With the help of a couple of French speaking members, the rules of Crown Green were explained and 5 pairs games were played.

After a short break they adjourned to the side of the car park to play 'Flemish Boules'. Two metal markers were placed 20M apart and a team of six had one boule each. The boules were in fact wooden wheels approx. 10 inches high and 3 inches wide, weighted on one side. The boules were rolled towards the marker using a similar method of finger and thumb in bowls.

A good afternoon was had by all and it was finished off with a Welsh High Tea in the clubhouse, where the Mayor thanked the club for their work and the visitors captain presented the club with a wall plate.
