WELSH MERIT WINNER

Roger Morgan (pictured) won the prestigious Welsh Merit Title when he defeated Dave Mathias (Beaumaris) 21-10 in the final at Abergele on Sunday 23rd June. He bowled extremely well all day, only conceeding 43 chalks and always looked like the favourite to win the title.
He becomes the third CYD player to win the title (Harry Newbitt 1940, Gareth Williams 1990) thus equalling the record held by the Bangor, Bailey Hill and Gresford clubs (each having 3 different title winners).
We wish Roger all the very best in the British Merit Finals at Llay on Saturday 4th August.
Junior Merit Qualifiers
Congratulations to Bryn Hughes and Dan Jones who did very well to both qualify at Penmaenmawr recently for the junior Welsh merit final day . The final day (32) is on Sunday July 29th at Bersham BL , Wrexham.
We hope they both do very well and it would be great to see some supporters from CYD there on the day.
Junior Counties Match at CYD
The match against Derbyshire at CYD was a great success. The home team performed well on a green that was in very good condition and running to their liking. Wales won the match.
TEAM REPORTS
With the execption of a thunderstorm last Tuesday (3/07) which caused a lot of local flash floods in the area and the postponment of a welsh counties game, the weather has been favorable and most teams are progressing satisfactorly at the mid-point in the season.
Llandudno and District League
The 'B' team are still a few points ahead of the 'A' team in section A, but the 'A' team have a game in hand. The 'C' team is 3rd in section B 9 points behind the leaders Rhos-on-Sea. In the cup competitions the 'C' team were knocked out of the section B cup, the 'A' team were knocked out of the section A cup by Rhos Park A and then lost to Mochdre away by 5 after giving them a 40 start in the consolation cup. The 'B' team now face Rhos Park 'A' in the Semi finals of the section A cup.
North Wales Coast League
The 'A' team lost 11-3 at Eirias Park last week but still have second place 3 points behind leadres Penmaenmawr in section 'B'. Their excellent 10-4 win at home to Bangor this week keeps them well in contention, Ian Andrews playing extremely well to win 21-6 against Selwyn Davies. The 'B' team have won 7 of their 9 games and are second in section B 4 points behind Holyhead.
Welsh Counties League
The team is still propping up division 2 and also lost to St.Asaph in the consolation cup.

The team are still top of the league having won 10 out of 11 games and are 8 points ahead of Bangor in 2nd place. The following members Terry Hampton, Stan Rothwell, Tony Davies, Eddie Edwards and Graham Bird gained county honours against Clwyd and Wrexham sides (both games were lost by Gwynedd).
Gwynedd Cup
Craig-y-Don are in the final of the Gwynedd Cup after beating Bangor by 20 points in the semis. We now play Deganwy on Thursday 2nd August at Penmaenmawr. Its a few years since we last got to the final and we have a very tough task in this years final on a green that will definitely favour Deganwy.
CLUB COMPETITIONS

Mrs Evelyn Evans beat Mrs Joy Parry to win the Ladies Rose Bowl last week.

Gary Roberts lost to Darren Williams (Deganwy) 31-28 in a very exciting close fought final of the 31Up Min y Don competition organised by Elfed Morris. The standard of bowling in the final was excellent , both players matching each other all over the green. Gary had easily dismissed Colin Campbell (Deganwy) in the quarters and Gwerydd Buckland (Bangor) in the Semis.

The Gwynedd Parks
Gareth Hughes represents Gwynedd in the away game at Fenton Park, Stoke against North Staffs. next Sunday 15th July. Gwynedd look in a strong position to progress to the final stages of the parks competition.
